Dear Ryerson Families!
In previous years, the Labour Day weekend signaled the return to school – this year has certainly been a year like no other and The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) will delay the start of the school year to allow students and staff time to transition back into the learning environment. The following is a link for the staggered entry that will begin Thursday September 10 with our JK students whose last names begin with the letters A – L.
Before coming to school, all Staff and Families must complete a daily self-screening. Parents/Guardians are asked to screen their child BEFORE they send them to school or WRDSB Extended Day program each day as per the Public Health requirements. A sick child, or a child with an active COVID-19 case within their immediate household should not be attending school. Parents/Guardians must also have a plan for the prompt pick up of their sick child should they be exhibiting symptoms of illness at school. The following is a link to our Board website that has the daily screening checklist.
Many families are wondering what students will be required to bring to school with them. Students that are travelling by bus are required to wear a mask on the school bus. All students are invited to bring their own masks. We do have masks available to students should they forget their own or need a replacement during the day. We are strongly encouraging students to only bring their lunches to school this year. Any learning materials that are needed will be provided by the school. Our past practice has been to ask students to have a set of indoor and outdoor shoes – this will not be the case this year. Since students will be engaging in as much outdoor learning opportunities as possible, footwear should be comfortable and practical for such activities as running and walking. It would also be beneficial if students were prepared for all kinds of weather when they come to school.
Finally, for students in Gr. 1-6 , this would typically be the day where you would be able to view in which class your child(ren) has been placed for the year. Since we are currently finalizing our in-person class lists, this has been delayed as well. Our teachers will be reaching out to families September 10 and 11 and you will be able to view this information on School Day by September 11.
We will continue to update you with any new information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the main office.
The entire staff at Ryerson have been working hard to prepare for in-person learning and are looking forward to welcoming our raptors back to school.
Sincerely,
Leisa Kuntz
